That's how long I was full time at the radio station. For those who don't know, I was laid off on Friday, the 26th of October. It was one of the weirdest days of my life. I made it to 32 years old without being fired. But that didn't make it easier. The good news is that I am still working for the station doing contract work for Women's hoops and football pregame shows. So catch Bucky and me Saturday morning at 10:30 for Countdown to Kickoff before the Ok. St. game on AM 1300 the Zone.
I want to take a second and thank everyone that has emailed, called, or come up to me and said they miss me on the air. That means a great deal to me. I hope you will tell others about the blog so folks can keep up with me. I have never been a big blog guy, but I will try and catch up.
Ok, let's get a sports take out there. It feels like forever since I was able to do that. I figured the Mack Brown comments about the fans booing would cause a little stir, but as usual, some have blown it all out of proportion. #1 Mack's right. Fans are different than they used to be for a variety of reasons. He took the shot because he's a positive guy that doesn't always understand negative comments. Now it may not be realistic in 2007 to expect fans not to boo, but it is admirable. I have never booed and never will, but that doesn't mean you can't. If your looking for the truth, I think it is somewhere in what Brown said on the network postgame. I am paraphrasing, but I think he said our fans were playing like our team for 3 quarters. Translation, he knows the team wasn't playing well and wasn't giving you reasons to cheer. But he doesn't think there are any moments where you should boo. He's looking for fans in the true sense of the word. He wants fanatical devotion no matter what. So understand that you can boo all you want, but he may take a shot or two when he feels you are booing a 7-2 team that he feels doesn't deserve it. But here's your real bottom line on Mack Brown and fans. In many ways he treats you like the players. He protects you. He calls you the best fans in the country and talks about DKR like it's a madhouse on a Saturday. We all know that isn't always true. So either keep booing and expect that he will be pushed to comment on occasion, or change the way you conduct yourself. Or you can do neither. Either way, if you were in any way shocked by what Mack Brown said, welcome to Mack Brown. Put the focus where it belongs. How do they stop that Ok. St. offense in Stillwater? And will they get a good start like they haven't against the Cowboys in the past?

Hey Chad,
Glad to see you got a blog after all. As the owner of a couple of blogs myself (one for personal, one for semi-professional), I can tell you that there is no more frustrating time than when you have nothing to write about or just don’t feel like posting that day. However, there is also nothing more satisfying (blog-wise) than when something you post gets a positive response or generates some genuine discourse. I’m looking forward to seeing your blog develop, so stay with it and I’m sure it’ll be worth your while.
As for the topic, I’m not one to boo my own team simply because I’ve never understood the impetus for causing someone to make an unintelligible noise to express their disapproval. (To quote Seinfeld, “You boo puppets! You hiss villains in silent movies!”) With that said, I don’t mind heckling when things get frustrating – nothing caustic, just a simple “come on!” or “what was that?!” If Mack wants to express his frustration/disappointment about actual boos, frankly he should because it is asinine to boo a 7-2 team. Yet it is not asinine to at least question a team for eking out wins against their non-conference opponents, jeopardizing a national title run by losing to a team who beat you last year and you had all off-season to figure out, and to run plays that don’t exploit your team’s strengths and/or your opponent’s weaknesses. If Mack would make some effort to embrace – or at least address – these criticisms with candor rather than stubbornness, maybe he could stop the boos before they start.

I think that is sad part of sports today. But if the fans are booing the players I take issue with that. I feel that is very wrong to boo any players that are professionals. Now if the fans are booing the coaches I don't agree with it but I fully understand. Me personally I don't boo but being an Aggie fan I have felt like it lately. Fran needs to go and go fast before the program is completely ruined. On ta subject have you thought about going to a different station and doing some aggie themed show. I know there are plenty of Aggie owned shops here behind the orange wall that would sponsor such a show. There are plenty of longhorn talk on all the stations pretty much all saying the same thing. It doesn't have to all be aggie talk but I feel anything that is not 100% texas would be welcomed and supported. Anyway I wish you luck with anything you do. I feel that station will run bucky and erin off next. can you be honest did you really mean all the crap you said about A&M or were you just earning your pay check. thanks
DJ
Good points on the booing thing. And I do understand the want to voice displeasure. Thanks for the support guys. Daryl, I always mix in plenty of Aggie thoughts, so I would love to get hooked up with any Aggie folks that would be interested.
Btw, what do you mean did I mean all the crap I said? Like what?
